Uva Ursi (Bearberry)

The Plant

A low-growing, evergreen shrub found in alpine and subarctic regions. It has small, leathery leaves and produces clusters of red berries that are a favorite food for bears (hence the name).

Known For

Its primary medicinal use is as a urinary antiseptic. The leaves contain Arbutin, which converts into a germ-killing compound in the bladder. It has been used for centuries by Native Americans to treat kidney and bladder issues.

Energetic Properties

Deeply astringent and cooling. It "tones" the tissues, tightening and drying areas that are inflamed or leaking fluid. It is a rugged plant that holds its energy tightly.
